About Dee
Representing St Kents and Manchester in the Rose of Tralee International festival 2010 is 25 year old Dee O’Reilly, a native of Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh. Dee is the youngest of 4 children two of her very favourite people in the world are her father, Gerry and her mother Agnes.
Dee has been living in Manchester since March 2008 and currently works as a Human Resources Advisor in Warrington. This basically means that no two days at work for Dee are the same, as any given day can include a mix of recruiting or inducting new members of staff, disciplining employees who misbehave and protecting her employer against discrimination claims. She absolutely loves her job – so much so that despite studying Law and Politics at Queens University, Belfast, she turned her back on Law to pursue a career in Human Resources.
In her spare time Dee loves the gym, indoor rock climbing and travelling. She is passionate about Human Rights and is a member of Amnesty International. In 2007, Dee travelled to Tanzania with a charity called Volunteer Africa where she lived and worked amongst a local community in rural Mghumbu and helped with the building of a Primary school.
A few words from Dee
Hello St. Kents!
First and foremost, I would like to say a big thank you for allowing me to represent your club in the Manchester Rose selection 2010. It was a great honour to be chosen as the St. Kents Rose and I was absolutely delighted to be representing the club when I was chosen as Manchester Rose 2010. I have to say, all of the other Roses on the night were absolutely fantastic and I have to thank them for being such a great bunch.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Rose of Tralee, to put it simply, the Rose of Tralee started 51 years ago in the town of Tralee, Co. Kerry as a competition to select a carnival queen. Year by year, its popularity has grown into what it is now – an international festival to select a female ambassador for Ireland. Girls from Ireland and of Irish descent from all over the world compete regionally for titles such as ‘Manchester Rose’, ‘Boston Rose’, ‘Waterford Rose’ etc. and a selection of regional winners then flock to Tralee in August every year to compete in a week long event for the title of ‘Rose of Tralee.’
So next stop for me as St Kents and Manchester Rose, is Portlaoise, where I will compete against the other British regional winners for a place in Tralee. Wish me luck! I will be keeping a diary on the St Kents website to keep you all up to date with how I’m getting on so you will get great insight into what the competition involves and how Kevin shapes up as my escort!
Speaking of Kevin, I would like to say a special thank you to him and to Tina for all of their help and support leading up to and on the night of the Manchester final. Couldn’t have done it without you guys!
